Mathematical reasoning is a civic skill. Civic Maths is a European partnership working to make it one, through non-formal education, practical tools, and open collaboration.
Civic Maths is a two-year project bringing together five partner organisations from France, Poland, Belgium, Romania, and Norway. It is designed around a single conviction: that mathematical reasoning, reading data, interpreting statistics, understanding ratios and trends, is inseparable from informed civic participation.
The project works in non-formal education settings, primarily through youth organisations and youth workers. It develops a curriculum, online training modules, and open-access resources that connect mathematical thinking to real societal questions. All materials are co-created with practitioners and tested with young people before publication.
Civic Maths aims to equip youth workers with the tools to integrate mathematical reasoning into civic education programmes. It aims to promote active citizenship among young people aged 16–25 by connecting maths to the issues that shape their lives. And it aims to contribute to the broader field of youth work by demonstrating and documenting what this approach makes possible.

National events in each partner country. Full publication of all resources. White paper and impact analysis released.
Implementation guide published. Long-term strategy for embedding the curriculum into youth work practice across Europe.
